Mary Kidnew Announces Green Party Candidacy for Mississauga-Lakeshore in the Upcoming Federal Election

MISSISSAUGA, ON – Mississauga-Lakeshore Green Party Electoral District Association (EDA) Founder Mary Kidnew announces she will represent the Green Party in the 2025 general federal election.

A lifelong Mississauga resident and multi-hyphenate volunteer, Mary Kidnew has never shied away from a challenge. Increasingly concerned about the climate crisis and social inequities, she contacted the Green Party of Canada in 2020 to inquire how she could volunteer, only to discover that no Green Party organization existed in her Mississauga-Lakeshore riding—yet.

Never one to be discouraged, she decided to found the EDA herself. She gathered a small but mighty team of volunteers, submitted the EDA application to Elections Canada, and became officially recognized in the spring of 2021.

Mere months after the EDA’s founding, a snap election was called. Kidnew rallied her volunteers around candidate Elizabeth Robertson, helping to plant the seeds for future Green action in the riding. A mere 15 months after that, a federal by-election was called following the resignation of then-Liberal MP Sven Spengemann. This time, she put herself forward to represent her home riding of Mississauga-Lakeshore.

With the possibility of another early election looming, Kidnew has once again decided to step up to represent the people of Mississauga-Lakeshore and offer them a real alternative to the establishment parties and the myriad ways they’ve failed their constituents.

Mary is a passionate community advocate who wants to use her platform to fight for a peaceful, secure, affordable, and just future for all Canadians—balancing the needs of people while caring for the environment. In her own words: “I want to work and serve our beautiful community in a larger capacity where I know that I can affect real change. I want to be able to support all the groups, organizations, businesses and people of our community while finding ways to steward the land by protecting the land, air, water, and wildlife.”

“At this moment, we are facing a threat to our freedom, democracy, economy, and our planet.  Our House of Commons needs MPs who bring fresh perspectives and can put the needs of their communities and country before the needs of their parties. I want to be that voice for a community and country that I love and call home.”

Her extensive volunteer credentials and engagement with the local community give her an intuitive understanding of the region’s needs, making her the ideal candidate to represent Mississauga-Lakeshore in Ottawa.

Presently, she sits as the CEO of the Mississauga-Lakeshore Federal Green Party Association, serves as Treasurer of Clarkson Lorne Park Tball (CLP), and volunteers as a Scouter with Scouts Canada.

Her wide-ranging volunteer history includes: President of the Hillcrest Ratepayers Association (HRA), tball coach with Clarkson Lorne Park Tball (CLP), Multi-Roled Director of Fairfields Swimming Club, Coordinator of Mom’s Time Out (MTO) and parent volunteer with the Peel District School Board.
